Right below a two-car garage and a spacious backyard, you’ll find stainless steel appliances on most home buyers’ wish lists. The shiny pieces have long been highly coveted for their sleek and elevated appearance. But lately, it’s been looking like renovators have another idea. According to appliance brand Big Chill, people are swapping silver for—yep—color.

Clearly taking a cue from the spike in sage green kitchen cabinets, Big Chill’s customers are gravitating toward its pale green products. “Nature has been a major influence in this year’s trending shades as homeowners are looking for new ways to bring the outside in with green accents,” says Big Chill’s vice president of marketing, Susan Emerick. After seeing the verdant shade pop up on the surfaces of cupboard doors, office walls, and kids’ beds, it was about time we saw it expand onto vent hoods, ranges, and refrigerators.

Big Chill isn’t the only company embracing the rainbow. Earlier this year, True Residential debuted its 36-inch refrigerator-freezer unit in a soft sage hue. Smeg has always offered an array of nontraditional colors like mint green and bright red. And Samsung recently announced an addition to its Bespoke range that lets you customize its fridge fronts with metallic finishes, a variety of color palettes, and even family photos. Whether it’s a beige stove, a pastel pink faucet, or a multicolored refrigerator, gone are the days of staring at spaceship-looking appliances that are covered in sticky fingerprints.
