Swedish House Mafia Took All Their Favorite IKEA Hacks and Turned Them Into a Collection
Including a reimagined Kallax and an all-black Frakta bag.

The Grammy-nominated trio behind Swedish House Mafia is no stranger to an IKEA hack. In fact, Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello have been reimagining items since they were teenagers. “When you’re just starting out with thin wallets, it’s rough out there,” Angello shares. “We bought IKEA [products] and hacked them into music furniture so we could build our own creative environment.” Now as well-established artists, they came back to the Swedish brand with the idea to build pieces specifically made for industry enthusiasts. The result is the Obegränsad collection, which will be available to shop globally in October. “It’s what we would have made ourselves when we were 14 or 15,” Angello says. Obegränsad (the word is Swedish for “unlimited”) hints at their ideal customer for these pieces: those with a limited budget but a boundless vision.
You don’t have to be an aspiring DJ to enjoy the collection—there are pieces for people who want to make beats at home, but there are also items for those who like to travel with their tunes and anyone who wants to simply kick back to a new record. From desks outfitted for production to comfy shag rugs ideal for listening lounges, Obegränsad consists of 23 pieces, starting at $3.50. At the heart of the new line, the large shelving unit may look familiar. It’s a Swedish House Mafia remix of the classic Kallax silhouette, reengineered to support amplifiers and a large collection of vinyl.
As far as the all-black direction, the lack of color came from the idea of having fewer distractions so artists can focus on creating, according to Angello. “I’m excited by such a simple thing as the black Frakta bag—it’s the best record carrier and PlayStation mover,” he says with a laugh. “It solves every problem.”
