I’m in the midst of packing up our apartment for an impending move across town (town being Brooklyn), and I’m in the “reconsidering every piece of furniture” phase. Is there something you’ve regretted getting rid of in a move? I know for sure I’m not parting with my kitchen tools—I dedicated this week’s Thursday edition to the pieces that helped us squeeze the most out of our very, very small space.
Today’s guest editor is Los Angeles stylist Merisa Libbey. She is a longtime Domino contributor with an amazing eye, and the projects she brings us are always soulful, inviting, and as warm as the California sun. She also has a bit of a wild streak—in a former life, she fronted a popular underground punk band—and I like to think that inspired her Current Mood topic: chartreuse.

What I’m loving right now: The color chartreuse. I’ve also seen certain shades referred to as citron or citrine. Basically, it’s a yellow-green. It’s versatile, fun, and bold, and as long as you choose the right shade, it’s easy to live with. I’d recommend it to someone who likes…refreshing, energizing color moments in their home.

Where I’ve spotted it in the wild: It looks great with…cobalt blue, olive green, and pale pink. |

Three real-life ways I’d try it: -
Inspired by Hotel Covell, I went for it and had a custom chartreuse sectional made by Clad Home (above). I’m obsessed.
-
If a whole sofa seems like too much of a commitment, try a throw pillow or blanket.
-
Mix some chartreuse into your next dinner party tablescape—glassware, linens, candles, or dishes.

Something to consider: Chartreuse can sometimes feel overwhelming if you don’t use the right shade. For upholstery, I would go more muted, like this Kravet fabric. For trim or a smaller detail like a throw, you could do a more vibrant shade. Always get a swatch, if possible, so you can see it in your own space.
If money, time, and space were no object, I’d…make patterned window treatments with a hit of chartreuse, even if it was just the trim color. Custom window coverings are a big splurge!
My elevator pitch to skeptics: Don’t knock it until you try it. Chartreuse can be fun in subtle ways, whether it’s napkin trim or a taper candle. It’s a clever addition to otherwise straightforward color palettes.

What’s the next… -
Paint color you want to use: Fountain Stone by Portola Paints in our bedroom. I love how refined and relaxing it feels, and it also complements the colors in our Folk Textiles bedspread.
Decor item you’re on the hunt for: A cute big-boy bed for my son, who is about to transition out of his crib.
Vintage score of your dreams: A pair of burl-wood drum tables to be our bedroom nightstands. Design destination on your bucket list: Australia.
Home project you’d like to tackle: A cork accent wall in our home office/guest bedroom. DIY you might actually do: Said cork accent wall, with my husband’s help. Trend you hope makes a comeback: Definitely not chevron. Design risk you’re taking: I bought a statement floor lamp by MakeBelieve that’s completely olive green lacquer for our living room. It’s very unexpected and I love it. -
Project you’re working on: I have been working on our home for the past two years and hope to share it with Domino readers soon!

Photo you snapped: My husband, Brian Overend, is a photographer, and we just worked together on some photos of our home office (above).

It might be getting dark before 8 p.m. now, but backyard meals are just ramping up at my house. The mosquitoes are chilling out! The humidity is dissipating! And it’s certainly not too late to stock up on made-to-last Falcon dinnerware that is chic enough to eventually bring inside (but as I said, not anytime soon). Enthusiasts still have a week left to get 15% of the heritage enamelware with the code DOMINOxFALCON.* —Lindsey Mather, digital director
