My husband calls what we’ve got going on right now in New York Sam Weather™. I am at my happiest in a light jacket, hot coffee but no gloves, crunching leaves on a long walk. But I digress—that’s not the layering we’re talking about today.
Interior designer Heidi Caillier has seemingly perfected the skill of assembling the right touches so they feel collected over decades, even if she’s about to hand the keys to homeowners for the first time. I’ve admired her style for nearly eight years, since we talked about a project she did in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood of Seattle. For her Home Front takeover, she digs into the hue that pulls all those thoughtful layers together: red.

What I’m loving right now: Red in all iterations, whether it’s just a small dose to enliven a room or an allover application. It makes a space feel energetic and always seems to be the final color needed to tie it all together. |

Pro tip: Invest in upholstery—a beautiful burgundy armchair or sofa in velvet or mohair is timeless and complements a lot of different color schemes and materials. |

What’s the next…
Paint color you expect to see everywhere: Yellow, like Farrow & Ball’s Dayroom Yellow, and I love it.
Material to get its moment: Lacquer. I’m obsessed with this moment. Trend about to take off: Small-scale mosaic tile patterns—think: Italian (above left). Trend you hope goes away: Neutral interiors with no personality. Decor you’re on the hunt for: The perfect mid-century Italian chandelier for our new dining room. Vintage score of your dreams: I recently found the most stunning antique French ebonized secretaire with inlaid brass. Pattern you want to play with: Flamestitch. Design risk you’re taking: A kitchen with hand-painted cabinets in a floral design.
Collection you’re working on: We just launched our sweet collection of lamps (above right) with our friends at Nickey Kehoe—a beautiful matte brown hand-thrown base with a variety of shades in vintage fabrics we sourced from around the world.

I recently did a deep dive into designer Lindye Galloway’s new home brand, Le Maé by Lindye, and noticed so many special details you might miss at first glance. There’s a cabinet with brass-inlay doors and a wood counter stool with a leather slatted back—so good. These are investment pieces for sure, and I get why. For the rest of the month, get 15% off Le Maé by Lindye full-priced items with the code DOMINO15. —Lindsey Mather, digital director
