And more of what you were digging last month.

The dog days of summer are best spent with no set plans and a good read…like this newsletter, perhaps? Here’s a rundown of our greatest hits from last month.

In case you missed it: Julie Vadnal shared how she uses her hundreds of books as decor, Lindsey Mather attempted to take control of the kid chaos, Samantha Weiss-Hills dissected her 56-square-foot kitchen setup, and Lydia Geisel delved into the off-the-wall paint ideas she’s seen lately.

Furniture brands have been on a hidden storage tear lately. We’re loving Sixpenny’s storage banquette, Article’s entryway bench, and this daybed from Crate & Kids.

More stuff we Slacked about: A little birdie told Samantha that you’ll be able to turn your Staub into a multicooker come mid-September; Julie spotted new shower curtains from Quiet Town; and Lindsey debated if this is the coolest kitchen ever (those wood veneer cabinets!).

Unusual silhouettes, fresh hues—you didn’t play it safe last month, and we’re here for it. These finds cracked your top ten:

  1. A pullout sofa that’s actually chic thanks to luxe velvet and contrast piping.
  2. A small-space–friendly dish rack with a draining board for double-decker drying.
  3. A modular shelving unit with a matching dresser—extra storage made easy.

  4. The novel of the summer, which happens to have a display-worthy cover.

  5. Stylist Merisa Libbey’s chartreuse sectional makes the case for going custom.

  6. Shallow metal shelving the exact depth of a fridge, so no one can see it from the living room.

  7. The ultimate cool-girl bookshelf, according to contributor Julie Vadnal.

  8. The perfect earthy green paint to put on your—wait for it—ceilings!

  9. The roomy, slope-arm lounge chair every reading nook needs.

  10. Colorful picture ledges inspired by the Yowie Hotel bathrooms.

Last month, we asked where you were battling household clutter. Your top answer, with 26% of the vote: the entryway. We couldn’t just leave you (or your jackets) hanging—here are a few clever organizing ideas from the Domino archive.

  • A postage-stamp-size entryway still has a lot of wide-open vertical space. Do like Jordan Ferney and corral your mail in wall letter holders.
  • If your coat closet is bursting at the hinges, may we suggest a shoe bench with hidden tote bag storage? Our editors’ pick is sold out, but this one is almost identical.
  • Or you could rethink the closet entirely. A drawers-cabinet combo is about as functional as it gets, and these “built-ins” are actually a disguised inset kitchen cabinet.

A peek into our editors’ camera rolls revealed that Michigan is an underrated design destination.

“This place setting at Cafe Mamo in Grand Rapids—I was there visiting family—reminded me that it is indeed a good idea to mismatch your flatware.” —Samantha, managing editor, home & shopping

“I kicked off my first-ever trip to Michigan with a stop at the Mill Glen Arbor. I’m convinced the key to cozy is a glowy pendant lamp and golden yellow upholstery.”  —Lydia, home editor
