And other October happenings.

It’s technically work, but Home Front was a nice break from the minor chaos of pulling together our third annual Domino Good Design Awards this month. These were some of the highlights.

In case you missed it: Samantha Weiss-Hills started planning out her new living room; Lindsey Mather revisited the home projects she half finished this year; and Lydia Geisel wrote an ode to Nate Berkus’s 2007 apartment.

Jib Projects’s new light sports a lampshade style that we’re starting to see a lot of (exhibits A, B, and C).

More stuff we Slacked about: Design director Brit Ashcraft let us know her favorite drinking glasses now come double-walled; Lydia wished this kid’s chair came in an adult size; and Samantha turned us on to this retro leather-handled cooler. Can you tell we’re in gift-guide land?

You were in the market for pieces with instant impact, both big (a bright yellow record cabinet) and small (hand-cast cabinet knobs).

  1. The almost-black navy paint color Lydia is eyeing for her dresser makeover.
  2. A good dupe for the vintage chrome and glass doorknob Lindsey found on Facebook Marketplace.
  3. A vintage wicker mirror with a chunky frame you could totally spray-paint.
  4. Cute round furniture legs you can use to upgrade any sofa, not just one from IKEA.
  5. Under-$40, easy-to-install bamboo roller blinds.
  6. The ideal reading light: this swivel-arm wall sconce with an adjustable shade, to boot.
  7. This chunky wall hook, which stole the spotlight from the striped doorframe Lindsey was admiring.
  8. A perforated coffee table like the one in Berkus’s 2007 apartment.
  9. A powder-coated record cabinet with sliding bookends and an optional groovy glow.
  10. Perfectly imperfect brass cabinet knobs.

Oldie but goodie home tours also had you clicking this month—these were the top three.

  • A 1920s Spanish-style house gone maximalist in Los Angeles.
  • Rixo cofounder Orlagh McCloskey’s predictably pattern-on-pattern London oasis.
  • A three-story Austin home inspired by “Ted Baker suits, black-sand beaches in Iceland, and films from the 1970s.”

A glimpse into the New York City jaunts on our editors’ camera rolls.

“I dropped into a preview of Gem Home, the new café-store from chef Flynn McGarry, this week and fell hard for these adorable ceramic soap dispensers by Shane Gabier.” —Samantha

“Now that I live walking distance from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, I constantly go to the storage section of the American Wing for inspiration for my own space. Future bathroom tile unlocked?!” —Lydia
