Kellie Brown is getting groovy in Palm Springs.

As someone who frequently leaves vintage stores empty-handed—womp, womp—I tune into Kellie Brown’s every Reel in hopes that a little of her thrifting prowess will rub off on me. Just a few of the content creator’s found treasures: a pair of etched metal table lamps, a supersize bust, and a marbleized mirror and vanity set. Cue the decor envy!

If you’re in Los Angeles next Saturday, though, there’s an even quicker path to secondhand shopping success. Kellie is hosting a collectors sale on November 9 at the Line Hotel with our former cover stars Jonathon Burford and Jesse Rudolph (go RSVP!). After moving full-time into her Palm Springs weekend house this year, Kellie is making it truly hers—here’s what she has in mind.

What I’m loving right now: The influence of my mid-century bungalow in Palm Springs (below) has me consumed with infusing my space with a nod to the 1970s. Mid-century and postmodern styles have always been a huge part of my design approach, but a little ’70s glam feels like it’s missing. I’m having the most fun delving in.

Why I love it: It feels like the design world is in its English cottage and Victorian antique era. There’s just something so rock and roll about doing my own thing while leaning into the original style of my home.

How I’d bring the look home: I’m not looking to create a time capsule or anything too on the nose, but rather bringing in special pieces that elevate and tie things together.

  • Add in organic materials like walnut with wall panels or larger furniture and chrome accents via smaller items such as lighting.
  • A mix of old and new is important. Low-profile furniture keeps things fresh.
  • Don’t go too cheap on textiles—you don’t want things to feel costumey. I like velvet with chrome and concrete for contrast, and I’m going to be mixing Moroccan rugs, like a Tuareg, with solid-color ones.

My shopping list:

  1. Park 03 Sunrise Rug, Nordic Knots
  2. 1970s Table Lamp, Chairish
  3. Magis Elysée Bookshelf, Design Within Reach
  4. Crosley C72 Record Player With Speakers, West Elm
  5. Cabra Indoor-Outdoor Coffee Table, Lulu and Georgia

Pro tip: Spend extra time slowly sourcing a few original pieces from the time period versus going directly to reproductions.

What’s the next…

  • Paint color you expect to see everywhere: Different shades of red, such as Negroni by Backdrop or Behr’s color of the year, Rumors. Color is happening everywhere and full tilt, like color drenching, and I’m into it.
  • Trend about to take off: Organic modern with a sense of minimalism. And the influx of cozy, lived-in spaces brings with it stuff, so maximalism.

  • Trend you hope goes away: I’m one of those “do what you want to your own home” people.

  • Furniture you’re on the hunt for: An exceptional bed for my guest room.

  • Vintage score of your dreams: Picasso’s ceramic plates.

  • Design risk you’re taking: I haven’t taken it yet, but I want a lacquered ceiling in my bedroom.

  • Project you’re working on: Aside from working on my Palm Springs home (above), my passion project is my YouTube series, Home Decor Homies, where friendship and home tours meet.

What’s the last…

  • Renovation you tackled: The closet in my bedroom. It was poorly placed and impossible to get into, so I shortened it and created a nook for a dresser and mirror (above left).

  • Thing you splurged on: My 1940s Italian mirror-vanity via Pomona.

  • Thing you got for a steal: I got an African solid stone carved bust for $80 from Facebook Marketplace.

  • Gift you gave: I’m redesigning my sister’s primary bedroom this month—does that count?

  • Post you saved: I’m going to be working on my bathrooms in the new year and have been saving inspo. This one spoke to me; it’s so simple but still glamorous in that quiet way that I love.

  • Account you started following: @goodblackart.

  • Photo you snapped: My current obsession: this massive floor lamp at a local vintage store (above right). Very on brand, ha!

One of my favorite family holiday traditions is scattering a big puzzle on the dining table and slowly tackling it together over a few days. I’m going to try to beat my mom to the punch and buy this year’s myself. Obviously I’ll be browsing Le Puzz, because you get the added bonus of being left with a literal work of art (did you know you can frame a puzzle?).
